Bugging God
Saturday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
My dear encountered couples:
One thing I’ve noticed about little children. They are often coming to their mothers, making requests and asking questions. When I’m talking to their mothers on the phone, that is really when they want attention. Children can drive their parents nuts. But know what? They can’t drive God nuts. He loves it.
“Let the little children come to me,” Jesus told his disciples. “Do not hinder them. The kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
Though Jesus was directly referring to the little children his disciples were trying to keep from bothering him, God considers all of us his children. And he wants us to come to him often, every day, at any time. To turn our minds and hearts to God often during the day no matter what we are doing, and say a few words to him or ask something of him is just what God wants of us. He loves to see we realize we need him. Without him we can do nothing, but far too many of us try to do without him far too often, don’t we?
When children are young it is good we teach them to think of God their Father, and speak to him often during the day, not only in their morning and night prayers. He wants them to include him in their play, be with them when they eat, enjoy watching TV with them. It is good for children to grow up with the habit of often turning their thoughts to God. If we already have grown up and without that habit, let us practice and acquire it.
Little children are always bugging their parents. God loves to be bugged.
