There's Good In Everyone
Tuesday of the First Week in Advent
My dear encountered couples:
We often judge people by what we see, what we hear, by how we feel at the time we make a judgment. In doing so our judgments can be far off the mark of fairness and truth. How many people whom we’ve only seen on television have we made up our minds about? We can see somebody in a movie play the part of a mean and cruel person and end up disliking the actor or actress who is only playing a part. Is there a need in us to bring down others in our minds and in the minds of others? Unjust judgments can be easy to make. Thank heavens God is not that way!
We are very fortunate God knows us down deep where there’s a good chance he’ll find something good in us. Hidden away in the private recesses of our souls resides good put there by our Creator. It may not get out too often for people to see, it may be so buried we haven’t discovered it for ourselves, but, as they say, “There is good in everybody.” Thank heavens Jesus sees it!
“The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,” writes Isaiah about the Messiah. “A spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and strength, a spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord. Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, but he shall judge the poor with justice and decide aright for the land’s afflicted.”
We might judge others unjustly, they might return the favor, but Jesus knows us deep down - he sees good in us. I hope we see it too, and let it come forth for others to see.
